This game was my introduction to the fantasy dungeon and dragons board games scene. Having little previous experience in the genre, I was able to learn my dungeoneering basics with this charming and gentle intro into what has lead to a bit of an addiction.The play is simple enough, choose your characters, noting your health, movement and special abilities. Then you take turns placing dungeon tiles and moving into the new areas you have revealed. Here you will encounter random item and the dungeons monsters. As you gain items through lucky finds or by defeating foes, you improve your characters stats in combat and defence. The dungeon layout is different every play due to your randomly selected tiles. Your goal is to forge a strong hero through battles and to find the ring, reach the exit and battle the dragon guarding it.The box is small and the components are of a nice quality. My only criticism is that I would have preferred larger bags for the monster and item tiles. My preference is to really mix up the tiles and stick my whole hand in to select a tile, rather than fishing about with two fingers. Not a game breaker though. One strange reviewer complained that the bags were not big enough for character cards, but honestly, they were never designed to hold the cards. Why would you want your cards jumbled in with the game pieces? Surely you want you cards kept in good condition?I still love this game even though I have moved on to Descent and Dungeon saga etc. Please also check out Kastles by the same creators. It’s a great card game that has given me countless hours of enjoyment.

Great game if you want to quickly set up a game to do some dungeon crawling with people who are not so familiar with board games. The rules can be explained in 15 minutes or less, and a game can be done in 60.

If you think you’d hate playing through adventures in a dungeon, think again. This great little game packs a punch (or rather, swings a sword)! Rules are simple enough for a seven year old, gameplay is fast and varied enough for this old dad to play it - even solo when no one’s around! Simple, well explained rules, good quality components and different game modes make this a hit…now, where did I leave my axe?

This is a great alternative to most of the top RPG board games which cost an arm and a leg.I've played this twice so far, once solo and once with friends.My solo run was with a single character, just so I could begin to learn the mechanics. Though considering this is the hardest mode it literally went too smoothly. I dropped the Loyal Bear companion not so far in so had an extra dice for each battle turn. By the time I got to the dragon I had also collected a bomb. So I threw my bomb at the dragon, and then moved in to attack. I rolled a double 5 which gave me a crit and with the bear's dice and my armaments I smote the dragon in one turn.In my play with others someone else got the loyal bear and basically became unstoppable. My character ran out of lives about half way into the game that time. So the remaining two players got to the exit, and then had a fight with each other, leaving the one player with the loyal bear exiting the dungeon alone. That in my opinion was the most fun to end the base game.There are some issues with this game and many things are very ambiguous-Loyal Bear is way too strong (though you can remove this I guess to solve that problem). An extra dice per turn + armaments pretty much puts you at equal power to the dragon.-Two handed weapon item cards are the same size as single handed weapons cards. So if you are wielding a 2 hand weapon it only takes up one hand space. Therefore someone in our group ended up with two 2 hand weapons equipped, so we had to make them drop one. This is hard to solve because it will be easy to see if you get a 2 hand card or a 1 hand card if sizes were different. Though you could maybe roll the dice and over 3 you get a 2 hander and under 3 you get a 1 hander (some others like Loyal Bear could also be changed to 2 hand size to even the stack out a bit too)-Item instructions are not often succinct and open to interpretation. There is an online resource, which is great, but it's annoying having to get your phone out to look, as the whole reason I play board games is to unplug from technology. Though some things are still pretty ambiguous.-As a tabletop first timer I had no clue what the 2d6 meant on the cards, and it took me 30 minutes of googling it to figure out I just roll the 2 dice. As in the manual it states that the number of dice is on your card. So that was what I was looking for, if it said an alphanumeric string not a number I'd have found it easily, though if we consider 2d6 as a number it is, by my calculations, actually 726! After the 30 minutes I found the video of how to play which explained it, but I was looking for the information without having to watch a video as I prefer to read.Yea what I suggest probably sounds negative, but these are small issues in an otherwise fun to play game. Pretty simple for anyone to learn. I was considering Skyrim or Hero Quest but they are a fair bit more expensive. So this allowed me to play some entry level tabletop with a small investment.So I really recommend this if you are looking for a short 1-4 player tabletop RPG that isn't too complicated and does not break the bank. The fact there is an expansion is really good too. I may eventually get that but I may go for Skyrim or Hero Quest instead.

I bought this game ready for Christmas to play with family and friends. Naturally I had to play it solo to get to grips with the mechanics. I've played it 9 times now and only beaten it once on solo with 1 character, 1 life lol.Really easy to pick up the rules. I wouldn't recommend drinking to much as your maths will most likely go out the window hahaha. Need to roll dice, add bonuses, subtract monster damage to find the total hit points. If monster has higher dice roll do all the above math and if you have armour and shields equipped, subtract monster damage further 😵‍💫 lol.A few things that aren't clear is. 1) If you have the familiar (Loyal Bear) Do you need to roll all 3 dice the same number to equal a critical hit?. 2) Can you hybrid your hero? IE: Can a fighter equip a bow to become a ranged attacker.Final thoughts-A really great tabletop rpg to introduce yourselves to D&D style games.Easy to learn, hard to master due to the random nature of the game.Plenty of YouTube videos to watch if you are unsure of some of the mechanics.Green game-Very minimal throw away plastic and that's a 👍 from me.Expansion on the way-Bag of dungeon 2, the cursed forest. Can't wait for this 😍Fingers crossed- I'm hoping you run through BoD first then move onto BoD2 carrying your gear/stats over.
