We bought this game never having played it. I seriously only bought it because I read that Dax Shepherd is obsessed with it. Our adult kids and their spouses were going to be at the house for a long weekend so we decided to introduce them (and ourselves) to Catan. Each of them bought it online that weekend...we played several times a day and continue to play each other online almost daily. This game is the best!

This is the set that you want. By now, you probably already know that Catan, (aka Settlers of Catan), is a great game. Since the tiles are placed in a random configuration, the strategy changes every game.I recommend buying both the base set, plus this basic expansion. The expansion allows up to 6 players to play. We use all of the tiles whether we are playing with a group of six, or even if we only have three players. The strategy may change slightly with three players on this larger board, since there are more choices of where to move, but essentially the core game is the same. I personally like the sack that is included with the set we bought, so we can keep the tiles together. We also went to our local store and bought 3 plastic travel containers usually used for bars of soap, and we now store the game cards in these. Now that all items are contained, we discarded the manufacturer's black plastic insert and can fit everything in the same box. This keeps it simple.Love the game, and love that the pieces are well made.

Such an AWESOME game! I love this! It takes 2-3 hours to play in average but it’s so fun you don’t even realize the time!

Never fails, these days when we are on vacation and the kids join us we end up playing Catan, whether it's Settlers or another. It's got strategy and luck, and is a little more sophisticated than a Monopoly. This is a great game to play with teenagers or older kids.

This would have been five stars if not for one of my settlement pieces being stuck together. This game is not cheap and it would’ve been nice if this was caught during their quality control process.

This game is tons of fun. It moves fast enough to keep everyone interested, and it's challenging enough be fun. There are several variations, so it doesn't get stale.

I received the CATAN missing the “settlements” and “cities” for each color except the green and brown. And its also missing the “JOKER”
