The Diggers Hardcover – June 21, 2013

I admit to feeling a bit duped when I bought this book for my digger-crazy son. The pictures are beautifully illustrated, but the whole story is nonsensical and disjointed, not at all poetic as some have described. It's hard to describe except that it seems like a random bunch of rhymes put together poorly, without a clear story or logic. Given there are so many smartly written children's books out there (our favorite is Goodnight Good night Construction Site), I thought this was really disappointing. The only reason why I'm still giving it 3 stars is that my 2 yo doesn't seem to notice and still asks for the book, which sometimes drives me crazy. I think he just likes the fact that several of the pages feature the digger rather prominently.

Ordered this for my toddler. He loves it!

The book is beautiful. Hard cover. Nice. It was recommended to me because I have two digger-loving boys. The 3.5-year-old enjoys it but he doesn't request it every night. He would choose Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site over it. And although the rhyming works, it's not quite enough for my 22-month-old to sit through it. He LOVES Goodnight Moon or Big Red Barn instead.

My 3 year old son loves it! One of his prize possessions. I wanted to transition his from more toys and less books....to more books and less toys to get him interested in reading. Margaret Wise Brown does a great job with the story and pictures. This is Not just a picture book, the story keeps it interesting so he stays engaged until the very end.Keep the construction books coming!!!

Like the picture and the amount of writing in the book for young children but there is no real conclusion or story line. Everyone/everything just appears to be digging ....it ends oddly like there is a page that could go after it.

Great book plenty of rhyming words. Good for opened questions.

My 3-year-old son's favorite book! The more you read it, the more it sounds like poetry, an experience I remember having with Goodnight Moon by the same author. Illustrations couldn't be more original and adorable. My son has MEMORIZED it page by page.

This book is beautifully illustrated. It has beautiful artwork and colors that are not typical for a book about tractors. As a Mom of boys I extra appreciate the fresh approach to a story about cars.

lovely well produced book my grandson will be over the moon or should I say Digger

I read this book to my daughter a lot because I love it. I personally hate Goodnight Moon but this book is nothing like that boring one. The illustrations are vivid and allow for lots of conversation starters for your little kids.

Our son loves construction equipment, so this is great. He's 2 years old.

My grandson requests this book over and over again. Great for those little ones that can't get enough of trucks, diggers, loaders, bulldozers...you get the gist!!!

Kids love it
